About the Author’s Guild: With more than 17,000 members, the Authors Guild is the nation’s oldest and largest professional organization for published writers. The nation’s oldest and largest professional organization for published writers, the Authors Guild, founded in 1912, has served as the collective voice of American authors and has long supported the rich and diverse literary culture of our country. Our members include novelists in all genres and categories, nonfiction writers, journalists, historians, poets, and translators. The Guild welcomes traditionally-published authors as well as self-published, independent authors.
“We advocate on behalf of working writers to protect free expression and ensure authors have enforceable intellectual property rights; we fight for fair contracts and compensation; and we provide a welcoming community for writers and translators of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and journalism,” the leaders explain. “Our educational and charitable arm, the Authors Guild Foundation, helps support our advocacy, offers programming to teach working writers about the business of writing, and hosts literary events that highlight the importance of a rich, diverse American literary culture and the authors that contribute to it.”
Membership in the Authors Guild gives you immediate access to services that span the entire professional life of a writer, from contract reviews and legal advice to web hosting and marketing resources. Learn more about membership.

About Elaine’s: A menu filled with delicious modern Mediterranean cuisine selections is sure to please everyone in your party. The dishes are based on exquisite food found in Alexandria, Egypt — a combination of Middle Eastern with French, Greek, and Italian influences. Elaine’s is named for the owner’s grandmother and is based on a promise she made at the age of 12, growing up in Cairo.
“I promised my grandma I would someday own a restaurant and name it after her,” shares co-owner Cynthia, who is also an author. She and her husband, bestselling thriller novelist Jeffrey James Higgins, are proud to share my family’s recipes with new friends and families in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.” Located in an 1880s building, it was the previous home for 38 years of the beloved bistro Bilbo Baggins.
The newly renovated restaurant is located in the heart of Old Town’s Historic District within sight of the Potomac River and Founders Park, just a few blocks from The Torpedo Factory Art Center, and Old Town Alexandria Waterfront. Make a reservation today: elaines-restaurant.com.
