Beka Wueste: A Kirkus Star winner shares 3 tips on book marketing
A Note from Hope Katz Gibbs, PR Director, Elaine’s Literary Salon — As the founder of InkandescentPR.com, I am on a mission to shine a spotlight on our clients’ amazing work.
This month, we invited author and marketing expert Beka Wueste (pictured above), who joined us on Elaine’s Literary Salon show to promote her new book, Human of the Year.
The Northern Virginia author has earned a Kirkus Star, one of the most revered designations in publishing, for her family drama published on June 9. Set in Montgomery County, MD, the literary fiction narrative alternates perspectives between an adult brother and sister who are reunited after nearly twenty years. Approximately three per cent of indie books receive a Kirkus Star, this a significant achievement. Beka is also an award-winning visual artist who exhibits her work frequently in regional and national shows. And by day, Beka is a marketing director who uses her skills to promote her books.
Here are three tips from Beka for our Writers’ Club:
- Don’t Chase Trends: Jumping on every social media trend might seem like a shortcut to going viral, but the better strategy is staying true to your authentic voice and building long-term relationships with your readers.
- Try, Measure, Repeat: There’s no magic formula that works for every author. As you promote your books, measure what’s most effective in getting new readers, and put your energy there in the future.
- Make Connections: Whether your marketing is print, digital, or giveaways, include your title and name, and if there’s room, your website and social media.
Remember, PR is the juicy stuff! Share it. Embrace it. Enjoy the ride! And always: BeInkandescent! — Hope
